THREE RESERVOIR WRESTLERS PLACE AT STATES

All four of the Gators won at least two matches at the state.  We were one close match from having all our entrants place at states this year.  Mason Kilcarr had a great run and came in second.  Sam Rowell and Michael Sullivan both placed fifth in states.  Wes Beattie got two wins and lost by decision to two wrestlers who ultimately placed in the 170 lb weight class.

2014 already looks like it will be an exciting year.  With four returning state qualifiers and several other wrestlers who came within a victory or two of getting out of the Regions expectations for next year will be high.

If your wrestler is interested in keeping it going in the off season, please contact Coach Rowell or me and we'll be happy to share our knowledge of the MANY off season wrestling opportunities available nearby.

The pictures include primarily Reservoir Wrestlers but I also took pretty many of others including:
  • Centennial (Austin Kraisser)
  • Duval (Theirno Dialo)
  • Glenelg
  • Hammond (Brian Overton)
  • Huntingtown (Mike Wilkerson)
  • Mt. Hebron (Joe Kendrick)
  • North Point
  • Paint Branch
  • Queen Anne (Matt Olauson)
  • Reservoir
  • South Carroll (Jake Pooton, Steven Schmidtz)
  • South River
  • Southern Garret? (Red Singlet SG 1a/2a)
  • Urbana (Nick Frank)
  • Wooton (Ralph Bernardo)
  • 3a/4a Parent Parade (Mostly Reservoir kids, Howard County Kids, Theirno from Duval)
  • 3a/4a Award Stand (152, 160, 195, 220)

FOUR WRESTLERS ADVANCE TO THE STATES.

Mason Kilcarr (132), Sam Rowell (152), Wes Beattie (170), and Michael Sullivan (220) all wrestled their way through the Regions to qualify for the states.

Mason took second and wrestled a great match against a returning state champ.  Sam bounced back from injury to wrestle his way to his second trip to College Park.  Wes really turned it on the second half of the season and took 3rd to earn his first trip to the states.

In a repeat of the county, 3 220 lb wrestlers from Howard County qualified for states including Michael Sullivan in the 3rd spot.

Congratulations Boy's Good Luck next week.

GATORS WRAP UP THE REGULAR SEASON WITH A 48 - 25 WIN AT CENTENNIAL.

After sprinting to a 19 - 0 lead Centennial only got 6 more points.  As the match started at 138 lb's - the strength of Centennial's lineup.  The Gators then finished strong with a series of wins that included bonus points.

BUSY WEEK FOR RESERVOIR - A LOSS TO RIVER HILL AND WINS OVER HOWARD AND MEADE

After starting the week wrestling reigning state champs River Hill and coming up short - the Gator's kept their poise and won against Howard and Meade. Our county record is now 6 wins and 2 losses.  This puts Reservoir in a third place tie in the county with Mt. Hebron.  Look for that match in the coming weeks.

Overall the Gators dual record is 7 Wins and 3 losses.

CONGRATS TO THE GATORS WHO GET BACK ON THE WINNING TRACK AGAINST LONG REACH

The Gators won by a large margin 73 - 6.  Horatio Mendez won his match at 145 and with the exception of 220 everyone bumped up a weight from 145 to 285.  Michael Sullivan weighed in at 198 and wrestled the heavyweight who came in at 283.  Michael won by pin to close out the night.

The JV squad performed well. And there are pictures of both JV and Varsity up on the pictures page.

Next Tuesday, River Hill and Howard visit reservoir at 4:00 pm on Tuesday.  I can't believe I'm going to miss it!!! No pictures unless someone wants to volunteer!

A note about Long Reach tonight.  Despite the score, there were some encouraging signs from Long Reach.  Their program seems to be growing and the number of wrestlers they have on both the Varsity and JV teams seems much larger than in the past.  There are fewer holes in their lineup.  It's good to see the Long Reach program growing and I hope you join me in wishing them well as they continue to build a foundation for the future.

MOUNT MADNESS RESULTS AND PICTURES

Four Reservoir Wrestlers Placed at Mount Madness.  Troy Kilcarr and Michael Sullivan both took 4th place and Mason Kilcarr and Wes Beattie took 5th.  This was our only opportunity to wrestle the private school kids this year and it did not disappoint.  There were great wrestlers in every weight classes and all our young men got great experience against solid opponents.

MOUNT MADNESS DECEMBER 28th and 29th (Check out www.kapwrestling.com to track the action)

(kap has an online tracking feature for $6 and when the time gets closer they will have free printable brackets)

Ok - if you are up early and checking out the site before running over to watch our Gators here are some other Maryland Kid's worth seeing wrestle - even if they are not wrestling our young men.  This is by far the toughest field our Gators will see this year.

At 138 - Seth Rowell from Mt St Joes (no comments needed for this one!) #5 in Maryland, also Nick Frank from Urbana is always fun to watch. #3 in Maryland

At 145 - Cole Graves from Spaulding #7 in Maryland.

At 152 - Logan Breitenbach Spaulding #1 in Maryland and Anthony Cimorosi Rising Sun #3 in Maryland will be a very cool final to watch if both of these young men make it to finals.

At 160 - Don't miss Josh Llopez #1 in Maryland and #7 in the Nation,  Bryce Pappas is worth watching as well at #4 in Maryland.

At 182 - Troy Murtha is absolutely one of the elite wrestlers in the tournament.  Troy was ranked nationally until just this past week when he lost at the Beast (one of the toughest tournaments in the nation).  I don't think I'd want to wrestle Troy this week.

This doesn't include a bunch of other ranked Maryland wrestlers like 106 Jake Vosburgh, 113 Stephen Simpson, 126 Zeke Salvo.

The top 3 at 132 Daniel Sanchez Georgetown Prep,  Matt Pente Spaulding, and Cameron Harrell Broadneck are all in the Maryland top 10.

All our wrestlers have their work cut out for them today and tomorrow.  Looking forward to seeing you there!

OH WHAT AN EVENING TO WRESTLE OAKLAND MILLS - RESERVOIR SURVIVES 33-28 IN A HARD FOUGHT MATCH.

After giving up the first four matches from 182 - 285 the Gators found themselves in an 18 point hole.  The boys fought back and ultimately came out on top 33-28.  It took some big wins by some of our veterans, it took some of newer wrestlers staying off their back.
Suffice to say we got some really big wins.  Tyler Ponton turned the tide with a pin, followed by another for Troy Kilcarr,  Joe Quattrone wrestled big and won by pin as did Mason Kilcarr.Hans Wicklein and Steven Sims won by decision to ensure Reservoir had a small lead.

Entering the final match of the evening Reservoir clung to a 30 to 28 lead.  Whoever came out on top that last match would determine the winner.

Wes Beattie took the mat knowing that the whole thing was in his hands.  And with the cheers of "Wes, Wes, Wes, Wes" cascading accross the stands.

Wes came through with a key decision.  There were many fine matches tonight, but given the timing, circumstances and closeness of the match - this night belongs to Wes Beattie.  Congrats Wes on one Huge win. I will try to get the pictures up later tonight.
