Glenelg's victory move's their county record to 5-0.

Next up is Oakland Mills.   This Thursday at Reservoir.  Don't miss this one - they lost to Glenelg 41-24.  This means it should be a barn burner.

OAKDALE BEAR CAVE BRAWL

DAY TWO:

Led by Mason Kilcarr (1st Place and outstanding wrestler), the Gator's ended up in 5th place as a team.  Many of our young men made it out of the round robin and wrestled for positions:

106  Tyler Ponton - 2nd
195  Michael Sullivan - 2nd
Mason rock'in the OW award!

113  Troy Kilcarr - 3rd
120  Trent Kilcarr - 3rd

126  Joe Quattrone - 5th
132  Han's Wicklein - 5th

This is two spots ahead of last year.   Your Gators acquitted themselves very well.

Next up this Tuesday Glenelg and Atholton visit Reservoir.

DAY ONE:

More to come.  I have only a few minutes - highlights and random thoughts from Day one:

Tyler Ponton, Mason Kilcarr and Michael Sullivan all finish day one 4 -0.   All the Gators looked good. There may be others that are also four and 0 - I just happen to be aware of these three.  I think everyone has at least one victory so far and most have 2 or three.

Nick got his first win as a varsity wrestler at 285 by pinning his man in his final match of the night - CONGRATS - Nick.

Damascus looks good and seems to have lots of depth.

There are some real good wrestlers at this tournament.

It's always nice to watch Matt Gancayco wrestle look for him if you come to watch Day two.  He wrestles 170 for Patuxent.

Other wrestlers to watch from other teams - there are plenty of others, but these are some I know of or have watched in the past.

Steven Schmitz - South Carrol
Jake Pooton - South Carrol
Anthony Savage - Oakdale
Ralph Bernardo - Wootton

RESERVOIR GATORS SERVE NOTICE TO HOWARD COUNTY COMPETITION

Reservoir won both matches at tonights Tri-Match.  Besting Marriots Ridge in the opener 57 to 12.

In the second and tougher match Reservoir beat Wilde Lake 45 to 27.  There were some key matches in this one.  Coach Mac gets a nod for managing this match well. Gambling that Reservoir's more experienced 'bigs' would compete better by wrestling up a weight class,  the Gators trailed 18 - 0 after giving up two pins against the strength of the Wilde Lake lineup and a forfeit.  To get right back in the match the Gators reeled of three straight Pins by Wes Beattie, Brian (Bloody) Glueck and Michael Sullivan.

Wes who last year wrestled 145 and this year is currently a light 170, moved to 182 and came through BIG.  Brian Glueck wrestling despite a cut from the first match that required stitches, fought through adversity and pinned his man at 195.  Michael Sullivan moving up from 195 pinned the Wilde Lake 220 to even the match at 18.  The teams then traded forfeits at 285 for Wilde Lake and 106 for Reservoir.

Coming down the stretch beginning at 113 we were all tied up at 24. Reservoir won 5 of the remaining six matches.  Only Ethan Trinh won for Wilde Lake during this stretch.  All three Kilcar's and both Quattrone's brought home victories.  Mason's victory at 132 sealed the win.

That was a statement victory.  Hope to see everyone at the tournament on Friday.  Oh - of course the pictures are here!

THIS WEEK - FROM THE COACH:

This week we have a tri-match against Marriotts Ridge and Wilde Lake on Tuesday 12/11 at 4pm.  This match will be held at Wilde Lake High School.

The Gators will be wrestling Marriotts Ridge at 4pm and Wilde Lake in the last contest of the evening, it will probably start at around 7. (A personal observation - the matches after the first one will proceed in order and you should come as early as you can for the second match - don't take 7 as gospel - it is just an estimate).

This Friday and Saturday the Varsity Gators will be at Oakdale High School in Ijamsville, MD for the Bear Cave Brawl tournament.  Wrestling will begin at 4pm on Friday and 9am on Saturday.

A MINOR SETBACK AGAINST SOUTH RIVER

(Pictures from Hammond are up now - over 600 pictures right here! JV and Varsity)

GATORS GET OFF TO FAST START AGAINST HAMMOND HIGH

12-6-2012 - Congratulations to both the JV and Varsity for convincing wins against Hammond High School tonight.

Reservoir's experienced but still young Varsity squad got off to a fast start.  Pin's by Mason Kilcarr (132) and Han's Wicklein (138) set the tone for tonight's match. Stephen Sims (152) varsity debut did not disappoint as he pinned his opponent Justin Taylor.  AJ Strott (160) a freshman, showed that his junior league experience prepared him well for high school, winning his first match by pin.  Senior Brian Glueck (182) was in fine early season form also winning by pin.  Michael Sullivan (195) won a tough match against Humphrey Anuh who was ranked 10th in the state in the preseason rankings.

The match started at 132, by the time we got back to the light weights - boy were they ready.  Tyler Ponton (106), and Troy Kilcarr (113) both won by pin.  Trent Kilcarr (120) won by a major decision.  And finally our other senior Joe Quattrone closed the night out in style pinning his opponent in the first period.

The boy's have only a few hours to revel in this fine win.  Tomorrow night the varsity squad takes on South River (2-0), a tough team that will be a good test for our Gators (1-0).

Pictures from today's JV and Varsity matches will be posted by Monday.  I will miss tomorrow's match and would appreciate someone sending me an email with the results (AS SOON AS THEY HAPPEN  :)  )

Past Gator Sightings - Josh Hamilton and Conner "The Answer" Davis were seen in the audience supporting their old team.

GETTING READY

Working off that Thankgiving Turkey Pictures here!

With many wrestlers out for Thanksgiving, Varsity and JV practiced together today.    With a small assist from Joe Quattrone, Dalton Kleinhen won two of three dodge ball games.  Joe won the third.   See some new pictures here.

HINTS FOR NEW PARENTS AND WRESTLERS

One of the things most wrestlers deal with at some point or another are skin infections.  Good hygiene is the best defense against skin issues.  This includes showering immediately after or when you get home after every practice.  This also means cleaning your workout clothes and wrestling singlet properly.  Click here to see documents that talk about cleaning procedures.  NEVER let your wrestler drop their bag of sweaty clothes and leave it to fester.  It also helps to clean the bag that transports the dirty clothes.  A good solution is to have your wrestler get in the habit of putting dirty clothes in a net bag inside their gym bag.

If you think you have a skin infection get treatment quickly.  These things can normally be controlled easily if treated promptly.

Help keep our wrestlers on the mat this year and out of the doctors office.
